Biography

What got you into music?
I've always had a drive, a passion for music. My first memory was playing the guitar. I was 6 years old and my father was trying to teach me "You Are My Sunshine." I remember the strings, looking at the frets and liking how each of the original strings sounded.

What are your earliest music memories?
I spent my time as a child loving the Bee Gees and Lipps Inc. I am a child of the '70s and early 80's. The song "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell and the song "Whip It" by Devo were hit singles when I was 9. I was and still am a dreamer. I would sit in the living room, when I wasn't outside riding on my blue bike, and sift through all of my mother's records.

What were your early influences?
My mother had Moody Blues, Michael Jackson's Off The Wall, Captain & Tenille and Foreigner. One of my favorite songs was "Funky Town" by Lipps Inc. I would close my eyes and dance, listening to all the different instruments come together. Music did, and still continues to, make me happy. I have a strong passion for expression, creating and recreating myself through music.

When did you start writing music?
I wrote my first song when I was 12. I knew that I wanted to be a singer at that age. My sister and I would sing our own made-up blues songs together. I took piano for 4 years shortly after that. I wrote a lot in my teen years, not necessarily song material but rather thoughts, not songs as much words. It's that one place you can go to where no one else can go. I didn't start writing songs accompanied by an instrument until I was 24. It wasn't until I was 28 that I bought my first Seagull guitar. I wrote numerous songs. I took some guitar lessons and was going to pursue a music and dance degree but, I felt I didn't want my creativity messed with too much. I have a lot of songs I've written that haven't been recorded yet - it just hasn't been the right time.

What have been your most memorable performances?
Well,I started playing open mics just a few years ago. Then I opened up for Dan Bern at the Casbah, in San Diego as a last minute thing - a thrill as I'd dreamt of playing there for years. Then I was asked to sing at the Firehouse Museum at an art auction that raised funds for artists impacted by the San Diego wildfires
